Pole dancing & Wheatgrass can make the world happier!

Welcome to the world of pole dancing inhabited by men and women with great abs, rippling muscles and unbelievable physicality (read: balance, coordination and sensuality).

Belonging to this blissful world is Polecats Manila performer and dance instructor Margaret Jade Chua Lao, who at 37 and standing 5’6, is mother to a ‘sixteener’ whose world revolves around soccer, rugby, swimming and baseball.

She crawls up and down poles, spins around them with grace and ease because she’s been pole dancing since July 2009. She recalled, “About that time, I was looking for a physically challenging workout so I went to the gym, attended spinning classes until I saw an ad about pole dancing.”  From day one at the Polecats class run by artist Christina Dy (known for her charcoal drawings), Margaret was hooked.

Despite her active lifestyle and her penchant for veggies and fruits, she had a never-ending bout with constipation. She tried breaking it by trying different products that promised relief. "There came a point where I even tried laxatives which isn't really good if taken daily," she confessed.

In 2010, she saw a TV infomercial where Dyan Castillejo talked about Easy Pha-max wheatgrass. Intrigued by Dyan's testimonial, Margaret googled the 'superfood' and browsed the company website (www.wheatgrasscan.com).  The more she researched, the more it fired her curiosity about wheatgrass. Margaret concedes that the body needs more fiber to help the digestive system function properly. The plant wheatgrass is packed with dietary fiber, chlorophyll, vitamins and nutrients that aid in preventing health disorders like constipation and diverticulitis.

She said that upon her first swig, it immediately yielded the cleansing results she long yearned for. "My bowel movement has turned from irregular to regular. The feeling of being cleansed every morning made me more energetic and more confident about myself throughout the day. Because of my daily intake of Easy Pha-max wheatgrass, the cleansing has flattened my tummy. Not only did it give me the feeling of being lighter inside, it has also reflected on me physically," she attested.

Margaret eventually eased her son into the wheatgrass habit to relieve him of his chronic constipation. She gave him the honey-flavored wheatgrass but her son liked the pure flavor better. “My son told me that after taking two sachets, his bowel movement became regular. As a growing teenager, he is becoming very conscious of his physical appearance and his health. He's now more physically active. Even if I didn’t push him to it, he makes it a point to drink a glass of wheatgrass everyday upon waking up. We make sure we also drink enough water,” she said.

Easy Pha-max wheatgrass has become a part of the nutritional regimen of people she's close to. In her family, Margaret points to her mother as a recent ‘convert.’ Add Polecats Manila, where almost everyone is familiar with the green drink. “We always have a box of both flavors in our studio which the students and the dance instructors help themselves to during classes. I drink it twice, upon waking up in the morning and when I get home in the afternoon.  It is my great pleasure to share what I believe will make this world a happier place…pole dancing and Easy Pha-max wheatgrass,” she said.

K25: Kylie Minogue' 25th Anniversary

KYLIE MINOGUE is back with a blast with the new single “Timebomb” and “THE BEST OF KYLIE MINOGUE” Special Edition with DVD

Eager fans of the international pop superstar Kylie Minogue have been religiously following hints about a surprise she’s  been preparing—including a countdown on her website and tweets with the hashtag #ticktick—but now, it’s already been unleashed.  A new single and video “Timebomb”  had just been released marking her own 25th anniversary in music (K25)and gearing up the new album 'The Best of Kylie Minogue' which is due out in 2013 as announced by Polyeast Records, the country’s official licensee of EMI Music International.

“Timebomb was a track I felt was the perfect song to be part of the K25 celebrations. So, we decided to make it one of our surprises uploads on Kylie.com!  Not only was I super excited about the song and the video, but the surprise element felt absolutely appropriate. It's the first time I've released a single like this and it was been so much fun. I love the fact that fans are responsible for the release with the 'tweet to unlock' mechanism, if feels fresh!” Australian pop icon Kylie said in an interview. “Timebomb” was unleashed online last May 25, 2012 and 25,000 tweets were received in 43 minutes after the announcement according to Kylie’s website.

The video for “Timebomb” is fast paced and full of energy as looking-so-spectacular Kylie walks through the streets of Soho, an entertainment district in London. Kylie added, “London will always be happening as far as music is concerned. We wanted to reflect that this is a tune made and recorded in London and reflect that in showing ultra cool London in the video.”

K25 spans Kylie’s 1987-2012 careerwhich have seen her release 11 studio albums and countless singles. Her first single, "Locomotion", spent seven weeks at number one on the Australian singles chart and became the highest selling single of the decade. Her debut album, Kylie (1988), and the single "I Should Be So Lucky", each reached number one in the United Kingdom, and over the next two years, her first 13 singles reached the British top ten.

From then on, Kylie was also responsible for several worldwide hits followed like “Spinning Around”, “Can’t Get You Out of my Head”, “Slow”, “All The Lovers” and others. Kylie, who recently turned 44, has achieved worldwide record sales of more than 68 million, and has received notable music awards, including multiple ARIA and Brit Awards and a Grammy Award. She has mounted several successful and critically acclaimed concert world tours and received  "Australian Entertainer of the Year" for her live performances. This only proves what her capacity for reinvention and captivating iconic pop songs have led her to 25 years in the music business.

“It's definitely a sign of where I'm heading. I love making pop dance music so that's our launch pad but as always, there will be some variations on the theme,” Kylie said.

11th Philippine ToyCon 2012 starts today!

"HERO UP AT THE 11TH PHILIPPINE TOYCON 2012"

It’s official. People can’t get enough of superheroes. Just looking at how much money the Avengers movie has raked in at the box-office, you know without a doubt that we are in a new age of superhero love. All the caped crusaders, cosmic characters and crime fighters we grew up with have taken on new faces and forms, and they are everywhere! In movies, on TV, in video games, theme parks and countless merchandising; the best and the brightest of our childhood memories have been ushered into a new age of Hollywood, and, baby, nothings ever going to be the same again!

And as usual it’s the fans that generate the excitement and the hype that make all this greatness possible. You see them, gleeful in the movie theaters, staying after the closing credits, knowing that the wonders of a secret extra scene come soon after. You see them converging at comic book stores talking about who would be best cast as General Zod in the new Superman movie. You bump into them at mall hallways dressed in full regalia as their favorite superhero character not in just run-of-the-mill store bought costumes, but in fully functional Iron man armor. Yes, you know them --- because you are one of them!

And they all know that the one event to look forward to, the one they anticipate the whole year round is just around the corner. It is the Philippines own mecca of all things pop culture and awesome. And this year, on its 11th year, it promises to be the biggest pop-culture event of all time! It’s June once again, and the Philippine TOYCON 2012 is ready to rumble!!

The Philippine TOYCON has been the benchmark of all fan gatherings for the past 10 years, exceeding attendance records each year and highlighting the best of all things pop-culture including movies, anime, comics, gaming and of course pop-culture collectibles and memorabilia.
Waiting in the wings of greatness is the final installment of the Batman saga, with Christopher Nolan’s ultimate chapter in the Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. Warner Brothers launches excitement for the movie with an exhibit of original movie props and costumes and DC Comics launches its new line of Dark Knight-related merchandise, apparel and toys. Other movies like The Bourne Legacy, Flight of the Guardians and The Hobbit will also be featured. Also in anticipation of the upcoming GI Joe: Retaliation movie and the 30th anniversary of GI Joe action figures, members of the Philippine Toy Soldiers 118 will put together the biggest GI Joe action figure diorama playset in the Megatrade hall 2.

ABS CBN Interactive also brings on the biggest gaming event of the year, Amped Fest 2012. Amped Fest in ToyCon 2012 will serve as the venue for the launch of the most awaited Relic of Mystra and Version 4 releases of online gaming flagship brands, Shaiya and WarRock. The new gaming roster for 2012 as well as an Android and java mobile gaming portal will also be unveiled. GM Barbie Lee and a host of other models will also cosplay favourite Amped characters. Kapamilya (ABS-CBN Channel 2) celebrities will also make special appearances for the Kapamilya gamers. Amped Fest will also serve both the culmination of Netopia Cafe Wars and the opening of JBlaze Cup 2012, where winners are sent to Korea to compete with other international online gaming champions.

The convention also brings together the best assembly of local and international artists to exhibit much anticipated work. Seattle-based Hawaiian designer Arron “Angry Woebots” Martin shows off his brand of pop graffiti and design in an exhibit of his world famous panda art which has graced museum walls, skateboards, vinyl figures and books. Friends from Komikon will also bring in the best of our very own roster of artists: Heubert Khan Michael, Lui Antonio, Gilbert Monsanto, Lyndon Gregorio, Ariel Atienza, Lei Muncal, Jon Zamar & Sherry Zamar. The artist panel will be on hand to sign comics, do sketches and fan art and sample the best local indie and mainstream titles.

The biggest crowd drawer for the convention is cosplay, and this year all costumed heroes revolve around the Cosplay Universe. The Philippine Toycon features a huge space where cosplay fans can enjoy photo-ops in six huge themed exhibit spaces: The Anime Planet, Superhero Stars, Movie Nebula, Toy Supernova, Gaming Galaxy and Kids Constellation, all of which make up the Cosplay Universe. Aside from being photo backdrops, the Cosplay Universe will also be the biggest Cosplay competition in the country which will feature celebrity guest judges from the international Cosplay circuit and where contestants vie for big prizes in six cosplay categories.

The TOYCON would not be complete without the biggest gallery of toy collections from all over the Philippines which will highlight the best and latest action figure releases and the most amazing customized toys, statues, dolls and high end collectibles. The TOYCON Gallery will be held inside the Megatrade function rooms which will serve as the museum of the event.

The event’s main draw is the huge dealers’ floor where anything and everything pop-culture can be found and purchased at bargain prices. Almost 180 booths will be open to sell pop apparel, cosplay accessories, superhero merchandise, fantasy and sci-fi collectibles, comics, cards, and of course, all sorts of toys overflowing from action figures, transformers, diecast cars, robots and high-end statues and 1/6 scale Hot Toys.

Get ready for loads of prizes to be given away on various competitions, games and contests. There will also be hourly raffles and exclusive giveaways for lucky TOYCON attendees. Aside from those, the convention will feature surprise guest celebrities from ABS-CBN, band performances, live auctions, film-showings and panel discussions from the best toy collectors from the local toy groups and customizers.

The 11th Philippine TOYCON 2012 opens its gate on Friday, June 15, with a special Retailers Day were collectors can already start buying their favorite toy collection pieces, and continues on through Father’s Day weekend on June 16 and 17 from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm at the Megatrade Halls 1 to 3, 5th level of the SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

Wheatgrass Chronicles Part 5

instead of Confessions, i changed it into Chronicles instead. i'm kinda getting tired of the Confessions for title. anyway, it's the same thing, same craziness only executed in different ways. and succeeding parts are surely going to be adventures in getting more  people to try wheatgrass (or coerce  or trick them if they won't) and me infusing as much wheatgrass into the food i'm gonna make in school. plus, i think i'm no longer a convert because i'm already a regular. hahaha! jeez, i just promoted myself up a rank.

out of boredom, i created these biscuits secretly infused with wheatgrass, topped with melted cheese.

i guess it wasn't just boredom, there wasn't any bread left for breakfast. consider it part-experiment, part-initiative to feed the hungry.

when i was giving my mom some of these, i felt like laughing out loud because she made it very clear she doesn't wanna try wheatgrass.. booyah! tricked my mom! don't tell!

i guess there'd be more of these experiments coming this blog's way since i'd start culinary school this month.

now that i've said it, i wonder how much wheatgrass i could infuse to whatever we'd cook in class?

i'm not sure how this would work for you, because, like what i said, this is an experiment turned okay. i'd share the ingredients and how-to but, just like before, do it at your own risk. ;)

Wheatgrass-infused Biscuits topped with melted cheese
ingredients:
2 packets of wheatgrass (pure, with honey, or bio-soy from Easy Pha-Max)
a pinch of salt
1 egg
1 cup of flour
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup water
1/8 tsp yeast with 1/8 tsp sugar, dissolved in warm water
more flour for dusting

sift flour and wheatgrass in a bowl. add the egg and oil and slowly add in water (we're making a dough here, not batter, so be careful with the water). add the yeast water and knead. dust with flour until the dough doesn't stick to your fingers. let the dough rest for 10 minutes (they say the yeast makes the dough rise but i'm not really sure it happened). knead again and dust with flour. let it sit again for about 5 minutes before shaping it the way you want (i spread the dough all over the tray). heat the oven (i used the oven toaster [yes, i am that creative and experimental] and it resulted okay) for about 3 minutes before placing in the tray. bake the dough for about 5 minutes or until it is golden brown. i added cheese on top 2 minutes before the oven turned itself off, allowing the cheese to melt.

breaking news! as i was ending this post, i caught my youngest brother eating the biscuit at the table and i think he liked it. i guess my target victims have successfully been conquered today. that's two birds in one stone, or should i say two people in a tray of biscuits?

“ROCK OF AGES” DELIVERS ANTHEMIC FILM SOUNDTRACK

Features Hits of Iconic Rockers Def Leppard, Journey, Bon Jovi, Poison and Others

Performed By Rock of Ages Cast Members Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary J Blige, Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise, and More

Ivory Music & Video, the exclusive licensee of Sony Music in the Philippines announces the international release of the soundtrack album for the highly anticipated upcoming movie musical Rock of Ages on June 2012. The ROCK OF AGES: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK boasts 20 rousing anthems that defined a generation—reinvigorated for the film by a stellar cast including Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.

Directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), New Line Cinema’s Rock of Ages is the film adaptation of the smash hit, five-time Tony® nominated Broadway musical which tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams.  Executive Music Producer Adam Anders (Glee) helps tell the rock ‘n’ roll romance through cast versions of heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Poison, Journey, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, Foreigner, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, and more.  “Taking classic, beloved rock anthems and seeing them through the unique perspective of the characters in the film was such an exciting prospect for me in directing Rock of Ages,” said filmmaker Adam Shankman. “We had a phenomenal cast who performed these songs in such a powerful way—adding depth and meaningful imagery to the film. I was lucky to have a partner in Adam Anders who, better than anyone working today, understands how to take popular songs and seamlessly repurpose them to tell a story with unparalleled originality and success.”

As the larger-than-life, arena-rocking champ “Stacee Jaxx,” the Rock of Ages Soundtrack features Tom Cruise belting out Bon Jovi’s classic “Wanted Dead or Alive,” Def Leppard’s hit “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” and Guns ‘N Roses anthem “Paradise City.” Cruise also duets with Malin Akerman on Foreigner’s power ballad, “I Want To Know What Love Is,” and shares the mic with Julianne Hough on The Scorpions’ “Rock You Like A Hurricane.” The album also features an extraordinary medley of Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian,” David Lee Roth’s “Just Like Paradise,” and Poison’s “Nothin’ But A Good Time,” which features Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin.  Also echoing through the soundtrack are mash-ups of songs that ruled the airwaves in the `80s, including Foreigner’s “Juke Box Hero” / Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock N Roll”; Extreme’s “More Than Words” / Warrant’s “Heaven”; Pat Benatar’s “Shadows Of The Night” / Quarterflash’s “Harden My Heart”; and Starship’s “We Built This City” woven into Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” all performed by the film’s cast.

New Line Cinema’s Rock of Ages comes to the big screen starting on June 15, 2012, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie musical stars Julianne Hough (Burlesque), with actor/singer Diego Boneta in his feature film debut, Russell Brand (Arthur), Oscar® nominee Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man), Academy Award® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago), Malin Akerman (The Proposal), and R&B queen Mary J. Blige, with Oscar® nominees Alec Baldwin (The Cooler, TV’s 30 Rock) and Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Magnolia, Jerry Maguire).

Shankman directed Rock of Ages from a screenplay by Justin Theroux and Chris D’Arienzo and Allan Loeb, based on D’Arienzo’s musical of the same name. Adam Anders and Peer Astrom composed the original score and produced the songs featured in the film. Rock of Ages is produced by Matthew Weaver, Scott Prisand, Carl Levin, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Grant and Jennifer Gibgot, with Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Michael Disco, Samuel J. Brown, Hillary Butorac Weaver, Janet Billig Rich, Shankman and D’Arienzo serving as executive producers.

HERO UP AT THE 11TH PHILIPPINE TOYCON 2012!

Noel Cabangon: Tuloy ang Byahe

Noel Cabangon.

He's a singer-songwriter who I know is a great one, but also one I'm not familiar with because I didn't dig his kind of music which is folk. But, that's all in the past. Thanks to his new album, Tuloy Ang Byahe, where he gave 16 classic OPM songs a new life with modern yet acoustic touch.

My favorite track from the album is "Manila", a collaboration with rapper Gloc9. I find it similar to the City of Manila itself - the city is 400+ old yet it embraces modernity, the song maybe about 40 years old by now, but they gave it a modern touch, the kids won't find it baduy nor jologs.

I was surprised Mr. Cabangon did "Kailan", originally sung by Smokey Mountain some 20 years ago. It was surprising because, like what I told him, the song was too tweetums for a guy to sing, much more for someone like him who already has an established name in the industry.

During the interview, Mr. Cabangon enumerated his musical influences, and among them the Filipino legends like Florante, among others. He also mentioned foreign artists like U2, The Police, Stevie Wonder. I got the chance to ask Mr. Cabangon why he hasn't released an English song despite him mentioning more foreign artists than local ones. He said he just hasn't done so just yet, so maybe next time, next album maybe. And then we go back to the song "Manila" which has a combination of Filipino and English lyrics, so I guess, there goes his first English song.

Today was probably the second or third time I met him, but this is the first time I was able to talk to him in an interview turned forum. Nice guy. He's so simple despite his status. I wish other singers are like him.

Noel Cabangon’s musical journey continues in Tuloy Ang Byahe

Singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon’s hit Byahe album spawned numerous awards, including the elusive Double Platinum Record Award and a sweep during the 2010 Awit Awards. The album also topped the music charts for 20 weeks.

Now, after two years, the highly-anticipated follow-up album Tuloy Ang Byahe is all set to be released in a few weeks.

The new collection of OPM’s finest tunes includes songs from icons Smokey Mountain, Leah Navarro, VST and Company, Dulce, APO, Freddie Aguilar, Florante, Rey Valera, Hotdog, Zsa Zsa Padilla, among others.

The album also includes some interesting tracks, personally handpicked by Noel himself.

Before being the multi-platinum recording artist that he is right now, Noel started of as part of the group Buklod (Bukluran Ng Mapagpalayang Musiko) more than two decades ago. His music speak of the many artistic, social and political advocacies he carries as a member of PETA, Dakila, Akbayan, Amnesty International and Greenpeace.

Noel doesn't just sing purely for entertainment. He believes that his talent is a tool to generate awareness on just about any issue, may it be political, environmental or social. Respected by his peers and revered by the new generation of rock musicians, Noel is recognized as one of the most influential figures in the Pinoy music scene, in fact one of his past hits with Buklod,Tatsulok was covered by Bamboo.
