a sudden tour of Manila - 06.18.2011

saturday, june 18, 2011

today i toured Manila with friends even though it was raining. still good! Manila will always be a wonder to me. it's as if everytime is my first time in Manila. it's true to me what the song says, "Manila, Manila.. i keep coming back to Manila. there's no place in the world like Manila". true. i'll always be a tourist in Manila, that's for sure.

actually, what brought me and my friends to Manila today wasn't the spectacle of the 150th year of JPRizal. what brought us there was that we found out that a friend of ours was diagnosed of pancreatic cancer on its last stage. ironic it is, because she's a doctor, and yet she's the one confined at the hospital instead of her doing rounds and being the doctor. her doctors said she's got about 6 to 12 months left. sad as it is, it seems as if she's already accepted her fate as there aren't any options for treatment for her at the stage she's in. but all are hoping for a miracle that would at least extend her life. after all, miracles happen right? miracles happen when you least expect it. i know it will happen to her. i believe it will. all the best for her.

anyway, across the street from the hospital, we decided to go to Luneta. honestly, i've never been there the way i wanted. the first time i went there it was already dark. every single time i passed by, all i could do is glimpse at the world-famous statue of JRiz. but now things changed. i got my photo op with JRiz. dream come true!

it was slightly raining but it didn't stop us from touring the park. based from our pics in there, it's as if we went around Asia in just a few hours - Macau, Hongkong, Thailand, Singapore, etc.. as if. just as if. hahaha! the park was so cool! i'll go back there one time, and hopefully, the skies will be sunny and bright. although, i must admit, i enjoyed having someone hold my umbrella for me. i feel like a celebrity with a bodyguard. hehehe. truth be told, umbrellas aren't in my list of favorite things in the world, you know. but i gotta have it in my bag all the time.

tomorrow, there'd be lots of things going on in Luneta. stalls are already set up and selling stuff from towns, cities, municipalities and provinces. i think the fountain was being set up for hydraulics since there were men fixing it even if it was already raining. it looks like it had to be finished by the end of the day so they can use it tomorrow.

tomorrow. tomorrow, i'd be thinking of today and i know i'll be wishing i was there tomorrow instead of today. but today couldn't get any better. there were downsides, but nevertheless, it was all good.
