Christian Bautista considers First Class his most important album

Diamond Asiansation Christian Bautista ushers in 2012 with the release of his highly-anticipated First Class: Outbound Expanded Edition album. The album, which has a limited edition coffee table book, marks his 10th anniversary in showbiz. It includes nine new tracks, five hits from the original Outbound, and new recording of his earlier hits Hands To Heaven and The Way You Look At Me.

“I can really say that this is my best album yet- from the songs, to the packaging, to the guest artists. I am really proud of this album,” says Christian. “Plus, this is also very important because this marks my comeback into releasing new songs.”

Christian hopes that the fans will support his new songs from the album. The carrier single from the album Beautiful To Me is currently the top downloaded song in www.mymusicstore.com.ph.

“We’ve worked hard to get the perfect original songs to be included in this album,” states Christian. “I am extremely happy also that I was given this chance to re-record two of my biggest hits- Hands To Heaven and The Way You Look At Me. Recording those tracks brought so many memories.”

Christian also expressed excitement over the chance to work with some of the most promising artists of this generation Angeline Quinto for In Love With You, originally recorded by Regine Velasquez and Asian superstar Jacky Cheung, and KC Concepcion for We Could Be In Love, first interpreted by Lea Salonga and Brad Kane.

Famed band Neocolours reunites to collaborate with Christian on the original Sasabihin.

As part of his celebration of 10 years in the business, Christian goes full circle by having a duet with Sam Concepcion for Rescue You, composed by Singapore-based Tat Tong. Christian and Sam were launched into showbiz via The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe almost a decade ago.

Japanese Pop singer Baby M also has a duet with Christian in the album – In My Arms.

The album includes impressive original tracks like Love You This Much, Let Go, and Whole. The theme of A Special Symphony, I’m Already King, is also included with Outbound tracks All That’s Left, Faith, What Can I Do, Unphotographable.

“This is a very important album, so I am really hoping everyone can support me,” admits Christian. “We have worked hard to make this album a fitting tribute to my 10 years in showbiz.”

The Limited Edition Coffee Table Book with CD is available in all National Bookstore outlets and other bookstores and record stores nationwide.

The Angeline-Christian duet of In Love With You was shot at The Lighthouse, Marina Resort, Subic Bay.

Bye Bye Kodak

i was reading an article (The Demise of Kodak: Five Reasons by Kamal Munir) from the Wall Street Journal about the bankruptcy of Kodak (article here) and i can't help but write my insights of its reasons.

1. caught in time:
kodak never thought that things would change. they never really tried to keep up with the developments that came with time and technology. they attempted to prolong the film-based photography for as long as they could, but now with all those digital cameras everywhere, they couldn't anymore, hence the filing of the bankruptcy.

it could be said that Kodak only thought of digital photography is nothing but a substitute for the film-based photography. but, as some would say, a substitute could take the place of the so-called permanent, because nothing is permanent.

2. every picture tells a story:
while i find it true, being stuck with the stereotype that Kodak is and will always be THE one trusted in traditional photography, which is THE main point why they are collapsing, if they hadn't collapsed fully yet. and for further emphasis on this point and to avoid redundancy, read again my conclusion number 1.

traditional cameras are viewed as a purely photographic equipment, whereas a digicam is both a photographic equipment as well as an electronic gadget. they may have built a legacy in the film photography business, but with the changes the times and technology has brought, they should have gone on with the flow.  they shod have realized they could still collapse and that they are not as invincible as they think they are.

3. back to the future:
from what the wsj article implies, Kodak is stuck in the yesteryears. back in the day, they were after the women as their target market. it is because of the women that those Kodak moments were made. how? the women are the ones Kodak made in charge of documenting gatherings of family and friends, babies' firsts, special occasions, etc. name it, Kodak moments were created by women.

men during those times were stuck in photography studios being the professionals making formal portraits, and basically that was just it. now, digital photography has made the men the main customers. *this is probably the reason why there are all those sex scandals circulating the world-wide web now. sex scandals = perverted man + digicam + sex + hot girl. sounds like (toot) and (toot).

4. the camera never lies:
technology was also an undeniable reason of Kodak's demise. they were half-hearted with embracing the evolution of the camera and were unwilling to let go of the film business. after all, with reportedly 70% gross margins, what fool would let go? but then, things change. if you cannot embrace it fully, you adjust to it because it won't adjust for you.

with digital photography, you can easily find out how the photo you took looks like. unlike the film-based, you will have to wait for a print out (which could take an hour to days or weeks, even months) before you can see that your eyes were actually closed and you were actually drooling when it was taken. with digital photography, i find that it could actually capture the atmosphere of when the photo was taken. it would show how a person is actually feeling. or not, if the person is good at hiding what they feel. nevertheless, you don't have to wait until forever to see that Kodak moment with a digicam.

5. over-exposed:
it struck me, i actually had quite a lot of wasted films because of exposure, thanks to those film cameras and me being a kid-who-owns-a-camera. lost were those moments i tried to capture. i don't even remember whether i should use the term "exposed" or "over-exposed". oh, well, it's a thing of the past. no pun on Kodak intended.

the article said Kodak does not know it's limitations. it's CEO even said it's gonna be like Apple, but Apple adapts to change, they don't. and so there goes their demise. Kodak is trying for world supremacy. like the stories of historical people in books end up, no one ever lived to see themselves succeed in dominating the world, and now Kodak has suffered such fate. nice try.

Confessions of a Wheatgrass Convert

i have heard of wheatgrass drinks around 2007 or 2008. i remember i first saw Dyan Castillejo on a show (probably Sports Unlimited, probably not) where she was in a wheatgrass farm (i guess) and there was a whole bunch wheatgrass seedlings.

the wheatgrass were cultivated in a cool place, it was somewhat like a greenhouse but it was cold and wet like a huge refrigerator and it was solely used for wheatgrass cultivation. i saw someone cutting the wheatgrass and had it extracted with a juicer, and then Dyan drank it straight up!

for someone not a big fan of vegetables, i was like, "ugh, that tastes like grass for sure". next thing i know, there started a trend for wheatgrass drink among health buffs and wannabes, and Dyan Castillejo eventually started endorsing Easy Pha-Max Wheatgrass  with Alodia and Ashley Gosengfiao. i thought, how can people stand ingesting something that tastes like grass? are they turning into goats or something? yeah, bad, bad me.

my bestfriend started trying wheatgrass around 2010 or 2011, she asked me to accompany her to find where she could buy them. we went to Watsons, we weren't looking for a particular brand. as usual, i was like, "what's the fuzz with grass?" because i haven't tried it and you'll have to torture me before i'd try it. she 's trying to be a health buff, and obviously, i'm not interested in becoming one nor even try to be one.

it wasn't until this February when i was invited to the Easy Pha-Max office that i got to try a wheatgrass drink. i was served the one with honey. i was trying to smell it at first. may i say i have a pretty strong sense of smell, and that i can tell how something tastes like just by sniffing it. out of courtesy to the hosts, i tried it, just one sip. and then another. and another. one sip after another got me consuming a whole glass. next thing i know i was being asked if i wanted a third glass. there. i liked it. it doesn't smell nor taste like grass like what i've always believed.

i know it has a lot of health benefits, but i have yet to discover what they are. i still have a lot of readings and research to do about its health benefits. as for now, the facts i know about wheatgrass is that it cleanses, alkalizes and nourishes the blood and body, and that it has 13 vitamins, 10 minerals, 17 amino acids, chlorophyll and fiber that the body needs so it can function efficiently (i got that from the Easy Pha-Max Wheatgrass flyer ☺).

so, dear reader, why not try it for yourself? if i could be a wheatgrass convert, so can you. so can your picky eater kid. i know, i am a picky eater myself. i liked it, try it and you will like it too.

A Curious Thought: What’s Inside a Bad Boy’s Pair of Pants?

What does action star Robin Padilla, former president Joseph Estrada, and cosmetic surgeon-turned-celebrity Hayden Kho have in common with Hollywood stars James Dean, Collin Farrel, and Robert Downey, Jr.?

Unless you’re a brooding man who can make women want to drop everything and land in your brawny arms every time something unfriendly comes their way, most men have all went through devastating heartaches at some point in their lives. We’ve seen it a thousand times—nice guys getting dumped and friend-zoned over stoic, devastatingly gorgeous, distressed men reminiscent of Damon Salvatore and Edward Cullen, who can make even blood sucking look sexy. What is it about bad boys that put sparkle in women’s eyes, glow in their cheeks, and blood rushing into their veins and other lovely parts?

No, this is not another story about vampires who sparkle in the midday sun while wearing outrageously pale faces and pouted lips. This is the truth that young boys long to discover, grown ups laugh about, and our grandpas love to revisit. This is the story of every Adam that will never be written in the history of mankind.

Three-time best-selling author and 30th National Book Awards finalist RJ Ledesma unravels how this and other crazy, perplexing phenomena are taking place, as he launches his fourth book “It Only Hurts When I Pee, RJ Ledesma’s Guide on Bodily Gases, Hair Loss and Pink Parts.” The book, distributed by Anvil Publishing, is a compilation of the ridiculously truthful, self-aware and highly comical chronicles of the less hygienic male species based on curious epic research, thorough investigation and, ahem, first-hand experience.

From the freshly squeezed brain juices of RJ Ledesma, the book and all its 167 pages tackles amusing topics and antics, including classic and epic details in the Pinoy dating and mating scenes, and male entertainment created simply by grimy fingers and a lack of good taste.

Wonder why bad guys often become the object of romance by women who, in RJ’s own word, desire “to increase the country’s current voting population”? Let the entrepreneur, multimedia practitioner, yogi and author of Lies My Yaya Should Have Told Me (2008), I Do or I Die (2009), and Is It Hot In Here Or Is It Me? (2010) tickle your funny bone and usher you into testosterone land with his newest masterpiece guaranteed to make you pee to your heart’s content.

SomedayDream - Hey Daydreamer

Hey, Daydreamer - SomedayDream

Oh you could just pretend to be with her all day

Remember the feeling when you first held hands today

Imagine her in your favorite white dress

Smiling at you as if she thinks that you're the best

She tell you You and me, sitting on a tree,

K-I-S-S-I-N-G. You tell her

Baby hear me out will you marry me tonight

We're in this make believe reality

And baby it's just you and me

Coz when tonight she holds you tight

You wonder if this fantasy is right

Coz when reality comes to play

You realize you couldn't make her stay

Hey Daydreamer

You gotta be prepared to leave her in your fantasy

Coz when it's over, you gotta make sure

That it's you who'll be with her

Oh you could be her soldier, her knight in shining armor

I'm sure you wanna make her feel how much you love her

And you wish to God that she can see the world in your eyes

So she can realize that she's the girl in your mind

And you don't mind if you don't make it out alive

Coz you knew right from the start that she's such a boy killer

(I'm dying, I'm dying~yeah)

Coz when tonight she holds you tight

You wonder if this fantasy is right

Coz when reality comes to play

You realize you couldn't make her stay

Hey Daydreamer

You gotta be prepared to leave her in your fantasy

Coz when it's over, you gotta make sure

That it's you who'll be with her

And I couldn't believe we're dreaming

I couldn't believe we're leaving this world

For one with more fantasy, just you and me

So that tonight we both can finally be

SIX GRADUATE programs in UST made it to the 2011 list of top master’s programs in the world by a French rating agency.

The recognition, given by Paris-based Eduniversal International Scientific Committee, was based on an 18-month study of 12,000 master of arts (MA), master of sciences (MS), masters, and master in business administration (MBA) programs in the world’s top 1,000 business schools and universities.

Eduniversal picked a total of 4,000 master’s programs in 30 topics.

In the communications topic, UST’s MA in Communication landed on 10th place for the Far East Asian region, while the same program of the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman settled at 17th. De La Salle University’s master of marketing communication, meanwhile, placed 21st.

A total of 30 universities in Far East Asia entered the top 200 universities for the Communications topic. The Information Technology and Media MBA of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology topped the list for Far East Asia.

For the top master’s programs in engineering and project management, the University’s MS in Management Engineering placed 39th and was the only Philippine school to enter the top 40 in Far East Asia.

In the Entrepreneurship category, UST’s MBA in Entrepreneurship program placed 99th out of 100, while the Asian Institute of Management program in master in development management ranked 64th. Cornell University was the top school in the category for its MBA- entrepreneurship and private equity program.

UST’s MA in Economics also landed 14th out of 30 in Far East Asia. The Master in Development Economics of UP placed 30th. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Fudan Univeristy (China), and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China) placed first, second, and third, respectively, in the economics category.

Meanwhile, the University’s MS in Human Relations Management ranked 14th in Far East Asia for the Human Resources Management topic. La Salle’s MS in industrial relations management placed 15th, while UP’s master of industrial relations placed 10th. There were 20 schools from Far East Asia, 40 from North America, and 50 from Western Europe.

In the Public Administration/Management topic, the University’s Master of Public Administration, together with the same program of UP, were able to enter the top 200 list, at 17th and 20th, respectively, out of 40 qualified universities in Far East Asia. China’s Tsinghua University and Fudan University, and Singapore’s National University of Singapore landed on the top three places.

Three criteria were used for the ranking: (1) the programs’ reputation, (2) the salary of the first employment of graduates, taking into account the differences between countries and (3) students’ satisfaction—based on emailed surveys to recent graduates regarding their satisfaction with their completed programs.

The survey, which started in 2009, covered 153 countries in nine geographical world regions: Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Eurasia and Middle East, Oceania, Northern America, Latin America, and Far East Asia. The Philippines is grouped with Brunei, Cambodia, China, Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Eastern Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
