Hotel SOGO: Pillow Fight Manila 2011

Press Release

HOTEL SOGO SPEARHEADS THE BIGGEST PILLOW FIGHT EVENT IN MANILA

Hotel Sogo, the largest hotel chain that has marked every bustling major transportation hubs with its presence, dominating every urban and suburban landscape and providing affordable, yet quality hotel services for every traveler in need of hotel facilities in the Philippines, is coming out with a series of activities in the next few months that will culminate in a big event by November 2011.

Hotel Sogo will break the record for the World’s Largest Pillow Fight with a free rock concert led by the country’s top performing bands. The younger members of the society are expected to look forward to the first biggest Pillow Fight in the Philippines, which is definitely new to the Filipino. Preparations are under way, and further announcements as to the details will soon be made.

We will call on all our Kababayans to help us break the record, which now stands at a little less than 4000 people participating in a Pillow Fight, come November 2011,” declared Mr. Gus Corpus, Hotel Sogo’s Chief Operating Officer.

The official world record states that the largest pillow fight took place at Minehead Butlins in Somerset, UK, on 14 November 2008. The same event was also intended to help a charitable advocacy as part of the BBC’s Children in Need night.

Pillow Fight is a game played among the young, where participants hit each other with a pillow in a comfortable venue. In other countries, the game became popular even among adults, and has turned into an organized outdoor pop culture activity. In 2010, Pillow Fights were held in several cities in the USA, Canada, Spain, Poland, the UK and even Hong Kong. Hotel Sogo will be the one to introduce this good-humored lighthearted event to the Filipinos by holding the biggest pillow fight event ever: the largest in the world, the first in Manila

This forthcoming event is a challenge, as well as a creative endeavor that we would offer to the Filipino. We hope for their support, as we continue to be ‘So Clean… So Good!’
Mr. Corpus concluded.

TOYCON 2011 Day 2 June 19!

TOYCON DAY 2 TOMORROW! DON'T MISS IT!

a sudden tour of Manila - 06.18.2011

saturday, june 18, 2011

today i toured Manila with friends even though it was raining. still good! Manila will always be a wonder to me. it's as if everytime is my first time in Manila. it's true to me what the song says, "Manila, Manila.. i keep coming back to Manila. there's no place in the world like Manila". true. i'll always be a tourist in Manila, that's for sure.

actually, what brought me and my friends to Manila today wasn't the spectacle of the 150th year of JPRizal. what brought us there was that we found out that a friend of ours was diagnosed of pancreatic cancer on its last stage. ironic it is, because she's a doctor, and yet she's the one confined at the hospital instead of her doing rounds and being the doctor. her doctors said she's got about 6 to 12 months left. sad as it is, it seems as if she's already accepted her fate as there aren't any options for treatment for her at the stage she's in. but all are hoping for a miracle that would at least extend her life. after all, miracles happen right? miracles happen when you least expect it. i know it will happen to her. i believe it will. all the best for her.

anyway, across the street from the hospital, we decided to go to Luneta. honestly, i've never been there the way i wanted. the first time i went there it was already dark. every single time i passed by, all i could do is glimpse at the world-famous statue of JRiz. but now things changed. i got my photo op with JRiz. dream come true!

it was slightly raining but it didn't stop us from touring the park. based from our pics in there, it's as if we went around Asia in just a few hours - Macau, Hongkong, Thailand, Singapore, etc.. as if. just as if. hahaha! the park was so cool! i'll go back there one time, and hopefully, the skies will be sunny and bright. although, i must admit, i enjoyed having someone hold my umbrella for me. i feel like a celebrity with a bodyguard. hehehe. truth be told, umbrellas aren't in my list of favorite things in the world, you know. but i gotta have it in my bag all the time.

me, my friends and JRiz

tomorrow, there'd be lots of things going on in Luneta. stalls are already set up and selling stuff from towns, cities, municipalities and provinces. i think the fountain was being set up for hydraulics since there were men fixing it even if it was already raining. it looks like it had to be finished by the end of the day so they can use it tomorrow.

meet JRiz

tomorrow. tomorrow, i'd be thinking of today and i know i'll be wishing i was there tomorrow instead of today. but today couldn't get any better. there were downsides, but nevertheless, it was all good.

just a thought

why is it that the most special things come when you're expecting it the very least? the happiness it brings doesn't amount to those which you were expecting. the smile it brings you isn't the same.

oh, before you think of anything, i'm just happy the final episode of an english-subbed taiwanese drama i was watching finally came out without warning, so now, i'm happy because i wasn't expecting it.
