Captain America is my Revival Superhero

I called Captain America my Revival Superhero because, the comic has been revived a couple of times whenever its popularity waned. It's inevitable, his popularity waning, but Captain America has managed to still survive even after six decades, and now a movie about him is coming soon. He always manages to stage a successful comeback, making him The Revival Superhero.

I admit, I am so not familiar with Captain America, except for the fact that he was one of the four superhero coinbanks of my youngest brother when we were younger. I remember holding that coinbank on its tiny Hermes-like wings on its head. But as the movie's nearing, I became more and more curious of Captain America and what he's about.

As I tried to search the net for his story, I've learned that Captain America was created in the 1940s, in time of the World War II. I have to admit, at the mention of those words, I got lost in thoughts that it could be boring because it was old and so on. But it also got me wondering, it was created for some reason - to inspire all the soldiers who were out on battle. I imagined my great-grandfather, who was a soldier for the United States back in WWII, reading a copy of the comics in his free time. I never met him, he died about four decades before I was born. He died in battle, they say, leaving his young children growing up fatherless. Nevertheless, even though him reading the comics is just my imagination, Captain America now became a connection to the great-grandfather whose tomb I only get to visit once every year on All Souls' Day at the Philippine-American Cemetery at the Fort.

Had Captain America been real, I wonder now if he ever got married and have kids. Maybe he would have grandchildren too. Maybe his great-grandkids were my age. But he is a comicbook character, so he never ages. ☺

Back in 2007, the world of comics wept as he was said to have died. I thought to myself, that was a good ending for a superhero. My reason is that, superheroes are human too, only that they're equipped with superpowers and indestructible armors and high-tech gadgets. But he doesn't have superpowers, I've read. He was only a frail man who had been injected with that Super-Soldier Serum that turned him into Captain America. Lo, and behold, he's alive! According to one of my searches about Cap, the villainous Red Skull had his girlfriend Sharon Carter use a gun that got Cap phasing in and out of space and time, appearing at events in his lifetime and fighting battles. Oh my, now I'm obviously into his story.

Before I become a spoiler to the movie and the story, let me end this post with interesting Captain America-themed shirts from SM Department Store:

Yeng Constantino: RakenRol Jamming Concert

Yeng Constantino first graced Philippine TV as a student in the local franchise of Endemol's Pinoy Dream Academy where she eventually took home the plum prize of being the first-ever Grand Star Dreamer of the said reality show.

Fast-forward to a few years later, and with platinum-selling albums and a string of certified hit songs, Yeng is now a songwriter-singer-host-music video director-concert performer-producer and the list goes on, as she strive to achieve more and more titles to add to her ever-expanding resume. Recently, an article said that she is now interested in pursuing an acting career - one of the things fans of Yeng should look forward to.

This multi-talented girl has numerous awards under her belt, thanks to her songs that are definitely catchy and lyrics that truly touches the heart of those who relate to it. Her very first song, Hawak-Kamay, garnered quite a handful awards and recognitions, it was even featured as the theme song of the Judy Ann Santos-Ryan Agoncillo movie entry for the 2007 MMFF which was a blockbuster hit. Not bad for a starter, right?

Flash forward to 2011, Yeng hosts the nightly show, Music Uplate Live! with Tutti of 6cyclemind, Marvin Concio and Gee Canlas. She still is a regular performer at ASAP Rocks and has since released her third studio album called Lapit.

In case there's such a song buzzing in your minds at the mention of Lapit, that's exactly the song that's featured in that same album. Lapit has been used as an insert song on many primetime soaps of ABS-CBN. As of the moment, that very song is the theme song of Coco Martin and Maja Salvador in Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, bringing fans' hearts aflutter.

Her album, Lapit, also contains the oh-so-catchy single, Jeepney Lovestory - of which music video Yeng produced herself. It features cameos of PBB Teen Clash Big 6 Ivan Dorschner and the Ultimate Heartthrob, Piolo Pacual.

She has also ventured in directing music videos, having directed Jaime Rivera's latest music video, Letting Go, which is now one of the most-requested on MYX.

Yeng will be releasing a Live DVD album called Yeng Versions Live sometime this month, under Star Records. The album is a compilation of classic OPM hits from the 70's, 80's and the 90's. The album will feature songs by Florante, the Eraserheads, Blue Jeans, Apo, Yano and more. Musical direction by Jack Rufo.

And come the first Friday of August, Yeng will be having her second major concert at the Aliw Theater entitled, RakenRol Jamming with guests Gloc 9 and Raimund Marasigan.

Bringing Color to Sound: Introducing URBANEARS

THE BRAND
Urbanears is a collective out of Scandinavia, motivated by a common interest in global relationships and shared involvement in the relevance of the living brand. Urbanears promotes a deeper connection to color, form and people while providing the freedom to transcend individuality and unify the sound experience.

CONCEPT

The concept Urbanears is spawned out of a number of ideas. Some that helped us form the project but just as many that came along the way. Primarily, there seemed to be no manufacturer of headphones out there that really shared our belief in what headphones are and how they are typically used. We wanted to produce headphones with a profound understanding of how they are utilized and why. We call this design and in our world design is the transformation of functionality to the human being.

Our vision was to add a number of elements to the concept of performance. Beyond the obvious sound rendition we had a vision of making headphones that felt more like clothes than chromed plastics and felt good to wear in a public space. We design headphones with much respect to what they are expected to be, but with great attention to the details. An Urbanears headphone is always describable as a classic headphone, rather than a bold design statement redefining the product category.

Our vision is to make Urbanears available and we spend much time and attention to making our products as affordable as can be. Still we want each item to have something a little extra and a bit unique. From the way it fits, works or an extra little functionality you wouldn’t expect. Equally important we put great efforts into putting Urbanears in a store near you. Check our retailer page for your nearest well of products.

In our time as music listeners we’ve seen (and wholeheartedly bought into) a number of formats. From everlasting vinyl to extinct minidiscs, we are absolutely convinced the binary format of your favorite songs will change from time to time, but remain stored digitally. This revolution has allowed you to carry on your full collection in your pocket and get everything you might not have streamed. With this format music has migrated from designated players into cell phones and other portable devices. It just seems stupid not to add a microphone and a remote, allowing you to pick up calls and communicate. We work hard to make your Urbanears work with the most possible devices out there, you can read more about this under each specific product.

We wanted to make a loud statement Urbanears is something new and different so we make our products in 14 colors and exchange them over the course of time. It really wasn’t long ago electronic products taking the bold step out of the gray scale were impossible to find.

WHO WE ARE

Urbanears was created by a number of individuals with very different traits gathered around a belief in the concept. The crew is made up out of entrepreneurs, industrial and graphic designers, tech nerds, former retailers, salesmen and business men - most of which can be described with more than one of these traits. We come from backgrounds in fashion, electronics and design. We are based in Stockholm, Sweden with a production satellite in China. Additionally we are represented by agents and distributors all over the world.

WHO WE THINK YOU ARE

Much more important than anything else, we make Urbanears for you. We know for a fact that you are carrying a few weeks worth of music in your pocket, or maybe audio books, language courses or simply a radio receiver. Statistically you are a city dweller listening to whatever this device holds going back and forth to work or school, at your desk, walking, riding your bike, running, traveling or just sinking in to your music with full attention. However, just as likely you live in a remote forest, it really doesn’t matter. We are convinced that you would consider the aesthetics of any type of hat before you bought it and put it on and that you feel the same way about a headphone. No doubt you have very little interest in bold logos printed over something you wear on a daily basis.

We do not use large scale polling or consumer interviews but rather think that you are much like us. Sharing the same daily routines and needs.

Urbanears is not intended for any specific sub culture, age group, sex, religion, race or nationality. Rather, we make headphones for anyone who is inclined to listen to music, no matter what kind.

WHAT WE DO

Urbanears makes your everyday music experience complete. We give you functional quality and acoustic performance together with a unique design. Choose from three original styles, all available in a rich palette of colors. Urbanears personalizes sound and amplifies your individual choice. In not so many words, Urbanears produces headphones. And as of now we have no plans to expand into other fields.

HOW WE DO IT

An Urbanears product is typically conceived through a vision of how a headphone is used and why. It could come from within in the office as well as from outside input. We thereafter work out a rough sketch on functionalities, price point and production possibilities. All design and development is done in-house as this allows us to work closely and efficiently with all parts of our company constantly monitoring development to stick with our key concept and meet our expectations of performance, landing at an affordable price. All in all developing a new product takes the better part of a year from the time the pencil hits the paper until the packaging hits the store shelves. However we constantly work on details with the feedback we get from consumers gradually improving each shipment of products.

THE COLORS

Color is a major part of Urbanears. At any given moment at least a dozen colors should be available. It might seem like an easy decision to do it this way and it was. However the reality of supplying this amount is a lot of hard work in matching materials and overseeing production in order not to run out of stock.

Urbanears releases two annual collections. A typical collection includes seven colors from the precious collection and five new ones. Halfway through the cycle we release two more colors, these are referred to as the supplementary drop. We choose colors based on having a good and equal mix between dark and light shades, feminine and masculine nuances, and classic elementary colors as well as more unbalanced or experimental shades. Some colors are bound to stay with every collection, such as black and white, but all others may be discontinued with any collection. So be sure to stock up while your favorites are available. If you feel we’re missing a certain color drop us a line with a reference image or maybe even a Pantone number.

We strive to have an as rich as possible amount of colors with any given retailer but many are unable to do carry the full palette. Ask them politely to include your favorite in their next order or find it here on urbanears.com.

THE NAME

First off, Urbanears is one word written with no blank spaces. Anyone telling you different is wrong. Naturally, it is a play of words and a mix of meanings. The urban environment and the ear which connects our products with the user, creating the image of a movement exploring the cities of the world.

PRODUCT NAMES

Our products are named after places and districts in our hometown Stockholm. This is also what the coordinates on the packaging refers to. In the process of naming we put no values in the choice of locations but rather make sure they are all important building blocks of what an urban environment is made up of. If visiting Stockholm punch them into a GPS and explore them to get a good idea of what this town is about, or maybe not.

THE HEART

The Urbanears heart logo is made up of the letter U in two units, turned around and overlapping each other forming a heart turned to its side. To us it is a variation of a classic shape, the heart, with a different story of construction and a multitude of meanings. Unlike most other brand logotypes the Urbanears heart logo does not come with a specific color but rather a number of layers filtering lights differently. We want you to make Urbanears what it is to you rather than proclaiming a correct solution and the logo is a part of this idea.

PACKAGING

The Urbanears packaging is designed to be easily disposed of and uses next to only biodegradable materials, rather than impossible to open plastic blister packs. The concept is based on optimizing shipping and store display. Each packaging comes in the color of the product inside and the image on the front is depicted in natural size (scale 1:1).

IMPACT

The production of almost any product will have impact on our planet through the source of materials, energy used in production, shipping and a number of other aspects. We strive to minimize this impact. However each year more than a billion earphones and headphones are shipped with a number of devices. These headsets are almost exclusively of poor quality and very short lived. We strive to make products that live up to expectations. Products that people actually want and that withstand daily usage.

Our production is carefully monitored to be carried out in a way that respects both environmental and human well being. We take pride in being certified with CE & WEEE.

FUTURE

Urbanears is devoted to headphones. And we will continue to be so as long as we exist. We hope to create long-lived designs that can stay around for decades in an endless number of nuances. For ever expanding and improving our product range.

Warriors of Thirty Seconds to Mars

just who are these gorgeous men of the band called 30 seconds to mars? read on.

More than fifteen years ago a band was born. Brothers Shannon and Jared Leto were its first warriors. Fast forward to 2011--after three million records sold and over 500 sold out shows worldwide, they are deemed as the next most influential band that is set to rock the worlds of Filipinos in their one night only concert invasion on the 29th of July at the Trinoma Mindanao Open Parking. Musicians-nomadic warriors of American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars are drummer Shannon Leto, lead guitarist-bassist-keyboardist Tomo Miličević and rhythm guitarist-vocalist Jared Leto.

Just a little trivia here: One would think this world class arena-crashing rock band’s name is derived from the planet Mars but the truth be told, it absolutely has nothing to do with space or galaxies. One of the band’s name origin came from a thesis written by a former Harvard professor which was entitled ‘Thirty Seconds to Mars.’ Lead vocalist Jared Leto came across the thesis which detailed impending advancement of technology and he thought it best described their band’s music. How members got to read about their name in books and in a fortune cookie is quite a long tale to tell but they have revealed that more than space and the universe, ‘Mars’ from their name has more connection with Mars--the Roman god of war. The band’s third album is entitled ‘This is War’ and it’s title track of the same name is one of the Echelon’s anthem. The Echelon is a street support team for the band.

Now unto the warriors of the band. Shannon, the eldest member of the band is also known as the older brother of front man Jared Leto. He has been playing drums since he was only 5 years old and today, he is known for extremely fast style of playing. Furthermore, he is praised as an inventive musician and electrifying performer which mesmerizes audiences every time. Shannon describes his band's music as having the grandiosity of Pink Floyd and the energy of The Sex Pistols. Besides being occasional actor, he is practicing photography.

Before rocking the stage, Tomo rocked the kitchen because besides being a certified rocker, Tomo is essentially a certified executive chef. He specializes in wedding cake decorating. He even became head chef a couple of times! He says that besides being in a band, the next hardest job is being a head chef. That’s not all for Tomo, you may know him as a guitarist nowadays, but Tomo was a practicing concert violinist since he was 3 years old and this lasted for about 16 years! After graduating from culinary school, Tomo sold all of his musical instruments and decided to leave the music industry for good. Fortunately, he was informed about the audition for Thirty Seconds to Mars by Shannon Leto. Being a fan of the group, he decided to audition. And you know what they say, the rest is history.

Last but certainly not the least-one of the most admired and talented American actor-musicians of our generation--Jared Joseph Leto. Jared has been a familiar face since he played the role of Jordan Catalano in the TV show My So-Called Life, in which he played opposite Claire Danes in 1992-1995. He continued to amaze the world with various roles and he won and got nominated several times for his talent. Besides his Hollywood career, Jared has also proven himself as lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and sole songwriter of the band.

Jared, who is naturally inclined to the film and the arts, directed the videos for the bands’ songs such as "The Kill", "From Yesterday", "Closer to the Edge", "Kings and Queens" and "Hurricane" under the alias of Bartholomew Cubbins, and also "A Beautiful Lie" under the alias of Angakok Panipaq. “From Yesterday” was the first American music video ever shot in the People’s Republic of China while “Kings and Queens” was MTV Video Music Award’s ‘Best Rock Video’ for 2010. All of his videos have garnered positive reviews and responses worldwide and this has become one the unique strengths of the band.

The Kings and Queens of Manila has a lot of anticipate from the band’s music and from the three nomadic warriors. Rest assured the Thirty Seconds to Mars will win that war. Thirty Seconds to Mars Live in Manila is presented by SMART, Music Management International and Futuretainment. GOLD (Php4,212) and SILVER (Php2,025) tickets are available at TicketWorld 891.9999 and SM Tickets 470.2222. For inquiries, call Futuretainement at 577.3265 • 586.7275.

Of E-Commerce and Multiply

Online sellers. You see them everywhere you go in the internet. It interests you. It excites you. It annoys you. Because it makes you want to shop. But whether you like it or not, it is the newest way of establishing a small enterprise. Whether you like to admit it or not, this way of commerce is here to stay.

Multiply started out as a social network, but in a few months' time, it has become a new medium of e-commerce because it made online selling not only possible, but easily available too. This is because the photos and videos of products can be shared for potential buyes to browse on.

Now Multiply boasts more than 82,000 shops to browse at, with that number of sellers from the Philippines alone, Multiply has become a vibrant shopping destination with an e-commerce platform, thus making Multiply.com the widest on-line shopping portal in the region. Aside from providing the widest range of on-line shops, Multiply’s strength as an on-line business platform remains unrivaled. With over thousands of successful registered merchants, Multiply has evolved to become a viable business platform for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Much like any other business, it is crucial to determine what your unique selling proposition is. The growth of Multiply as a social shopping network was rather organic, with netizens first seeing its potential as a business platform,” said Multiply Philippines CEO, Jack Madrid, “We listened to the needs of the market and discovered the strength of Multiply, harnessed this opportunity and developed a fully-functioning e-commerce site with the introduction of Multiply Commerce” added Madrid.

For buyers, Multiply Commerce developed the Marketplace that offers a listing of a wide variety of shops while sellers can take advantage of the Multiply Commerce program.

Multiply Commerce: Offering real-world success for entrepreneurs, on-line
With the introduction of the Multiply Commerce program, sellers can now optimizetheir businesses with its new features that will help push their businessesforward:

1. Payment System
In the Philippines, Multiply has partnered with Banco de Oro virtual card, BPI, Paypal and Globe Gcash to ensure fast and safer payment systems since buyers will be paying Multiply.com directly rather than individual shops. In effect, Merchants don’t need to open separate accounts to offer different payment options. They just need a BDO or BPI account where Multiply.com will transfer earning to begin selling.

2. Product Listings
The product listings feature allows sellers to categorize their merchandise instead of just using the photo album function to share their wares.

3. Stock Room
The Stock Room feature offers merchants a dashboard of product listings for more efficiently managing their business. This is where they can manage inventory, monitor orders and update product listings and track their cashflow.

4. Buyer Protection
To ensure safe and seamless transactions, Multiply Commerce offers a Buyer Protection program for sellers who opt to become Trusted Sellers. In this arrangement, Multiply will be able to help the shoppers and merchants resolve transactional issues in case of any disputes.

5. Shopping Cart
Interested buyers can easily buy several items from a single shop or several items from different shops in one go. This feature fastens the purchasing procedure because they need not contact eachshop for individual for multiply orders.
For existing sellers, Multiply Commerce provides step by step instruction on how to migrate their merchandise from Photo Albums to the new selling platform. Once the seller migrates to the program, Buyers who log into Multiply.com will be able to to buy more easily and more securely using the new platform.

With the introduction of the new and improved Multiply Commerce that takes on ane-commerce platform, buyers and sellers can enjoy easy, safe and accessibleshopping at their convenience.
