Pop-rock trio HANSON re-visits the Philippines, New album “Shout it Out” now available in stores nationwide!

To most of the world, Hanson were three little boys who sang infectious and catchy songs like “I Will Come to You,” “Penny and Me” and “Where’s the Love.”  Fifteen years after hearing their ubiquitous "MMMBop" here, there, and everywhere—the boys are back to reward loyal Pinoy fans with some of their greatest pop-rock anthems.

In support of their highly-anticipated new studio record released by Polyeast Records, “Shout It Out,” Dayly Entertainment and Fox International Channels stage the Hanson Shout It Out Tour 2012 on March 30, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and March 31, 2012 at Waterfront Hotel Cebu. PolyEast Records’ Robin Nievera will serve as the front act for the Metro Manila gig. Nievera has recently launched his debut album “Overwait” under PolyEast Records preceded by his first single “in 3’s.”

Hanson brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac, --the pop-rock boy band from Tulsa, Oklahoma that took the radio by storm in 1997-- are back with a force to be reckoned with. Experience a non-stop fun and dancing and the chance to bring back a phenomenon with one of the purest pop hitmakers of the last two decades.

Releasing their most ambitious album to date which reflects the music that Hanson listened to growing up-- 60's soul and 70's songwriters-- Shout it Out is now available in stores under by PolyEast Records. The new album, which debuted at #2 on the US Billboard Independent charts, has fuelled the continued passion of fans around the world; led by the infectious soul-inspired single “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” and the smash follow-up “Give A Little.” The album highlights music legends, guest bass player Bob Babbit of Motown fame, and horn arranger Jerry Hey, best known for his work with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones and Earth Wind and Fire.

The three-time Grammy-nominated band has also been enjoying a massive resurgence with the first single’s video which pays homage to a scene from the classic movie "Blues Brothers" and features a guest appearance by "Wird Al" Yankovich. The 12-track set will mark the band's third release on its own 3CG Records label (including 2004's Underneath and 2007's The Walk) and distributed by PolyEast Records here in the Philippines. Fans can now buy the album at all major record outlets or download the songs at

Drawing on the classic sounds of R&B, soul and blues albums they listened to growing up, Shout it Out is a breezy, sun-kissed collection of 12 hook-heavy, brass-indebted rock songs. The album includes the opener "Waiting For This," the groove-based "Kiss Me When You Come Home"; gospel- influenced "Carry You There"; leaning towards the easy-listening type of "And I Waited"; catchy and distinctive guitar riff of "Give a Little"; big band-esque sound "Make it Out Alive"; piano-driven ballad "Use Me Up"; the mid-tempo leanings of "These Walls" and "Voice in the Chorus"; and the vocal-driven album closer "Me, Myself and I."

Billboard said that Shout It Out represents some of the band’s “most soulful work ever committed to record”, while Salon hailed that the new single “may be their finest moment yet”, and Entertainment Weekly praised “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” as “a delicious, catchy slice of popsoul.”

PolyEast Records will also release Hanson’s “THE BEST OF 5” CD+DVD – a collection of Hanson’s live performances of their singles, released over the last 13 years. This exceptional concert series invites the millions of Hanson’s fans to re-live more than a decade of the band’s music and their renowned dynamic live shows, and gives an unparalleled look at why Hanson have stood the test of time.

Clarke Isaac (31 y.o.), Jordan Taylor (29 y.o.), and Zac Walker (26 y.o.) have spanned many different genres, including rock, blues, folk, and pop. They are most noted for their Grammy-nominated 1997 monster hit, “MMMBop” and have sold over 16 million albums. Their 1997 album “Middle of Nowhere” was met with critical acclaim and went on to achieve multi-platinum status and led the band being the youngest-ever nominated songwriters.

Over more than 15 years since their debut major release, the band has earned praises for their songwriting, musicianship and dynamic live performances with New York‘s Village Voice calling them the "Finest Straight Up Rock Band In America."

Hanson being the next show to take the spotlight with an ecstatic response from Filipino fans since it was announced by Dayly Entertainment last year-- this is definitely a gig that no one wants to miss and gets that estrogen level to the greatest heights. As the band continues their timeless rock & roll legacy, make way to Hanson Shout It Out Tour 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on March 30, 2012 and March 31, 2012 at Waterfront Hotel Cebu presented by Dayly Entertainment.

Two of MCA Music’s major domestic artists went home victorious at the recent MYX Music Awards held recently at the Music Museum.

Rock band Chicosci’s new single “Unbelievable” was voted by a combination of MYX viewers and artists as “Favorite Remake”.  The song is a cover of the EMF original which is included in the compilation album “90s Music Comes Alive” under MCA Music. Its music video was directed by Paolo Ruiz and Tower of Doom and was supported by Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0. “Unbelievable” easily made it at MYX charts just days after its premiere last year. The band is currently finishing their new album under MCA Music.

“We are so thankful for those who voted four our music video which was quite different from what we usually do like doing a cover and shooting a video during one of our tours,” Miggy said.

Another winner was electronic-pop sensation Somedaydream who bagged the “Favorite MYX Celebirty VJ”. Since debuting at last year’s MYX Music Awards, so many good things came along for this talented Ateneo student which also led him to a MYX Celebrity VJ stint in June 2011.  His album is still out under Mecca Music and MCA Music which includes the hit singles “Hey Daydreamer”, “Delivery Boys” and “Sing This Song”.

“I was just there last year to perform and now I won an award! It’s unbelievable and I’m so happy that MYX is always there to support,” Somedaydream said.

Since 2006, MYX, the number 1 music channel in the Philippines honors the biggest hitmakers in the Philippines via the MYX Music Awards.

Madonna most involved for her 12th studio album “MDNA”

If listeners find all the earmarks and trademarks of Madonna in her latest album, that’s a testament to her deep involvement to the process of creating the package, her twelfth and first outside her old label. The power play of maturity and a new beginning she's now embarking on makes this one another turning point to her career strengthened by ingenuity and artistic adventure.

While the album title, “MDNA,” is a mere abbreviation of the Mother of Invention’s  world-famous name (as suggested by collaborator M.I.A), its accidental meaning, being Madonna’s DNA, actually defines the finished product as her imprint as one of the world’s most successful artists of all time can be heard all over the collection.

The 12-track album, to be released this March 26, is led by the cool single “Give Me All Your Luvin” featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. By now the track has spread via limited privilege as provided by iTunes --- in the process only hastening the interest and anticipation for the Queen of Pop’s album since 2008.

Her recent Super Bowl appearance seemed to have rubbed on to this engaging track as its official music video has football and cheerleading as main themes.

A second collaboration between Madonna and Minaj comes in the form of the song “I Don’t Give A.”

Album producer Martin Solveig pointed out in an interview, "Madonna is as involved as you can be in the recording process. We literally co-produced the tracks. I mean, at some point she wanted to choose the sound of a snare drum or a synth and that kind of stuff. She was really in the session!"

One other track of high interest prior to the formal physical CD release is “Masterpiece” which bagged the Golden Globe Award for Original Song in the last edition of the Awards.

Recorded in New York and LA, “MDNA” had Madonna reworking with ex-collaborator William Orbit (who worked on “Ray of Light”). The latter co-wrote and co-produced several cuts for the new album.

Other numbers in the album are “Girl Gone Wild (second single),” “Gang Bang,” “I’m Addicted,” “Turn Up the Radio,” “Some Girls,” “Superstar,” “Love Spent,” “I’m A Sinner” and “Falling Free.”

Madonna’s “MDNA” is officially out today, March 26 under MCA Music in CDs at leading record bars nationwide or online via To download Madonna’s current single, “Give Me All Your Luvin” featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. on your mobile phones, just text KB285 and send to 2332 for GLOBE/TM, text GIVELUVIN and send to 2728 for SMART/ Talk N’ Text and text 5493368 and send to 2300 for SUN Cellular.

As part of Alveo Land’s 10th year anniversary celebration, Ayala Land’s benchmark for innovation enlivens the dynamic landscape BGC, particularly its newly unveiled district—High Street South, with an impromptu concert of former Rivermaya front man, Rico Blanco.

“As an initial display of what High Street South has to offer to our future residents and visitors, we decided to have a first-ever live outdoor impromptu performance of an exceptional performer who exudes a distinct kind of energy and vibe to underscore the vibrancy of the urban landscape that will soon be heightened in BGC,” Jennylle Tupaz, Project Development Group Head of Alveo Land.

To date, BGC—touted as the ‘Home of the Passionate Minds’, is an address of diverse retail and business shops, dining destinations, leisure options and residential developments. The district, which continues to flourish ever since its inception, in fact has already established itself as one of the country’s fastest emerging mixed-use urban hubs.

Celebrating 10 Years of Vibrancy in BGC

The first-ever impromptu street concert, spearheaded by Alveo Land, was a realization of the company’s vision of the emergence of High Street South as BGC's cultural district that exudes a lively, cosmopolitan vibe. At par with other first-world cities, such as Manhattan in New York, Clark Quay in Singapore, and Paris in France, High Street South is Alveo Land 's pioneering integrated township ideal, which is set to redefine the BGC landscape in the next 25 years.

“We’ve always envisioned High Street South to be an area that complements and enriches the various lifestyles inherent to BGC,” shares Tupaz. “In a few years’ time, High Street South will be known as a destination where all the conveniences of the modern world will harmoniously co-exist with different forms of art, wide roads and lush green areas.”

Alveo Land’s High Street South, poised to become the country’s fastest-rising integrated urban development in the metropolis, is an exclusive township designed by the CAZA Group—renowned architects from a New York-based design studio, headed by a highly regarded Filipino in the industry, Architect Carlos Arnaiz. As BGC’s cultural district, High Street South will house an exceptional array of international and local retail and business establishments, diverse dining destinations, and recreation and leisure options.

“Alveo Land recognizes the desire of today’s urban individuals to live within an iconic, well-connected community, where they can live, work and play, while at the same time, fulfill their passions and reconnect with their community,” adds Tupaz. “ High Street South essentially addresses this need by harmoniously blending all the elements necessary to create a thriving community, exuding a distinct kind of urban charm.”

Mango-Wheatgrass Sorbet

it's summer and the weather's getting hotter by the second. i have thought of a recipe that will surely help us cool ourselves while still on the healthy bandwagon. i can't believe i just mentioned healthy, because it's not really in my vocabulary, but yes, it's healthy because i'm including my latest addiction in the recipe - wheatgrass.

this recipe is completely mine. to be honest, when i cook, it's trial and error because i don't follow directions nor do i weigh or measure, so me giving out my personal recipes, a.k.a. kitchen experiments, you're gonna have to be the one doing those weighing or measurements and adjustments if you're gonna try my recipe.

this mango-wheatgrass sorbet is done manually, meaning there are no kitchen machines involved except for the freezer, and maybe a blender if you have one (i used the whisker when i made this because i didn't want to make noise. i sneaked in the kitchen in the middle of the night). it's gonna take time and effort and patience so be prepared.

  • 2 ripe mangoes
  • 1 packet of Easy-Phamax Wheatgrass (Pure or with Honey)
  • 1 bag of powdered clear gelatin
  • at least 1 cup of sugar to taste (it's up to you how sweet you want your sorbet to be)

  • cook the gelatin as directed.
  • add the sugar until it melts. set the gelatin aside.
  • puree the mangoes.
  • combine the gelatin and the pureed mangoes in a container (preferably plastic container or an ice cream can) and let it cool.
  • add the wheatgrass packet, make it 2 packets if you like, and add more sugar to your liking.
  • the pureed mangoes shouldn't let the gelatin mold, or if it starts to mold, add a little water so it won't.
  • freeze it for about an hour then take it out to give it a stir. freeze again for another hour and then stir and do it again until you think it is ready to be served.

And the Ultimate Global Pinoy is…

Who is the modern day Filipino hero?

He’s no Andres Bonifacio nor is he a Jose Rizal. But even without a sword, a gun or a pen, his sacrifice for the country is no less valiant. After all, he carries the aspirations of his family and the country’s economic security on his back.

Aptly called as the modern day hero, these 11 million overseas Filipino workers have earned the trust and admiration of employers all over the world. Something we as their countrymen should all be proud of. With this reason, the Commission of Filipinos Overseas, Duty Free Philippines, and Kraft Asia pay tribute to the Global Pinoys that have showed excellence not only in their careers, but also in the initiatives to help their fellowmen in the country, through the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards.

The Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is an initiative to search for the most outstanding global Filipino workers who deserve the gratitude not only of their loved ones; but also of the nation as a whole. It was primarily led by the Commission of Filipinos Overseas, the government agency tasked to promote and uphold the interests of Filipino emigrants and permanent residents abroad. The online nominations ran from October 2011 to February 2012, and 10 outstanding overseas Filipino workers have been chosen and will be announced during the Awards Night on March 15, 2012.

The Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is our way of saying thank you, and giving recognition to Global Pinoys. We are proud to announce the names of the individuals, who have shown their outstanding contributions to both their employer, and their country,” says Imelda Nicolas, CFO Chairperson.

“In its tradition of being the thank you and pasalubong chocolate from overseas Filipinos, Toblerone has initiated this project in order to give back, and give each and every Global Pinoy what they truly deserve—a sweet thank you,” shares Jaya Singh, Region Director, Middle East and Asia Pacific, Kraft Foods World Travel Retail.

Be part of a grateful nation. Join the rest of the country as it honors the ultimate global Pinoy, whom a grateful nation will say a resounding thank you to. For more information, visit

Confessions of a Wheatgrass Convert Part 2

while i have been successful being a wheatgrass convert, i made it a point to influence the people closest to me into the wheatgrass habit - my family (immediate and extended).

i admit, i'm still not so successful in convincing my mom and my brother into it, but i have fully convinced my aunt to get her, her husband and my cousins to try Easy-Phamax Wheatgrass with Honey. she and her family are trying to get into a healthy lifestyle so i told her she can combine the wheatgrass packet into smoothies and juices if they aren't gonna be fond of it. but i doubt big time that they aren't gonna like it. her son and i are alike too much, so if i liked it, i'm pretty sure he definitely will like it too.

and with that mentioned, i've been thinking of ways to sneak a packet of wheatgrass into my mom's favorite eggplant salad or my brother's morning coffee or chocolate, or our dinner. nevertheless, i won't stop until i get them into the wheatgrass habit.

just so you know, there are so many ways to take Easy-Phamax Wheatgrass. like what i have mentioned earlier, a packet of wheatgrass into smoothies and fruit juices will make very healthy and refreshing drinks for the family. it can also be combined into salads, salad dips and dressings, and it gives twist into desserts and pasta sauces too.

when i can, i'd share the recipes i got from Easy-Phamax Wheatgrass. until the next confession. :)
