PAELO PEDRAJAS: Photographer

At the young age of 24, Paelo Pedrajas' works have been featured in different local magazines - covers and spreads, worked with top models and designers in the country, and been official photographer numerous times for huge events like the Philippine Fashion Week and Fashion Design Alliance Manila's December 2011 exhibition and show.

His online portfolio,  http://paelopedrajas.co.cc, and his official website, http://cargocollective.com/paeped, feature his works from magazines and events. Minimalist and simple, both websites showcase of his artistry without the effort of connecting with his subjects.

A goodlooking guy in his own right, he should be in front of the camera, but he works his magic behind it instead. He could cross-over from one style of photography to another as swift and comfortable as could be.

He appears on the May 2012 issue of GARAGE Magazine (grab a copy!):

Paelo Pedrajas likes calling himself a bum. But you look at his extensive portfolio of fashion editorials in countless magazines and news publications and you see a bum who knows his way with the lens
Pedrajas graduated with an Advertising Arts degree from the University of Santo Tomas. His style-traversing raw to high street to glamour photography which one may find subversive - has brought him to work closely with the Philippine Fashion Week team for S/S 2012 and become a part of the VISIONS: Beauty and Style Exhibition in 2010. He has also worked on a December 2011 Exhibition and show of the Fashion Designers Alliance Manila.
If he’s not taking photos for a living, you might catch him snapping photographs of the setting sun on his latest backpacking trip to the beach or the mountains or maybe doing and crossing out items on his bucketlist of adventures.

Paelo is a personal friend, who I met when we were still in UST. He doesn't know yet that I'd be writing and promoting him here in my blog and my other social media (but of course he will be seeing this once published). I'm not doing this because of friendship, but because I truly believe in what this guy can bring. His works amaze me everytime. The way you are going to see things through his lens are truly captivating.

Start School Strong, Start it Right! Scotch® and Post-it® Brands Share Tips to Help You Get that A!

Starting off your college life is an exciting milestone.  There are many opportunities to for you to grasp, experiences to savor, and goals to attain once you enter college.

With that being said, let’s focus on “goals to attain”. Once the homework and assignments start to pile up, don’t let that rain on your parade.  Achieving number one may be a tough cookie to bite, but it is not impossible when you learn how to get there.  Fortunately, you don’t have to go unequipped, because with the right tools and mind set, you can surely succeed and you’ll find that university is that much more enjoyable.  Here are tips on how you can make studying fun and getting those A’s more achievable:

1. Give yourself a heads up!

At the start of every semester, expect to get a course guide.  The course guide will give you a schedule of what to expect per class.  A tip to help you be on your toes as often as possible is to have a visual on hand. Try printing out a calendar of topics from your course guide which you may stick on your study table. Stick it using Scotch® Magic™ Tape that comes in a cute Rabbit Dispenser! It won’t damage your table unlike other adhesives so changing calendars every month is as easy as 1-2-3! Remember: Being on track gives you a whole lot of edge!

2. Don’t forget to take your textbook to class and get familiar with it!

Taking notes during class is helpful in knowing what key points you need to remember and what the professor wants to emphasize.  Often times, your professor will expound on topics that are not in your textbook. These are key points that that you need to catch. When he throws these points at you, catch them by jotting them down on Post-it® Original Notes. It even comes in variety of colors such as Canary Yellow, Lavander, Green, Pink, Blue, and Orange. You may organize the key points by topic and write them in similar colors so you can easily distinguish which explanation goes with each topic being discussed. Then, post your key idea right next to the topic being discussed in the text book, this way you will be reminded when you backtrack at home or review for quizzes.

3. You’ll see what you need to remember by flagging textbooks!

Highlighting keywords and definitions can be helpful when you’re reading through each section or chapter.  However, when you have too many highlighter marks, it can defeat the purpose of highlighting.  When you go through your textbook, rather than highlighting all the terms you see and things you need to review, mark them with Post-it® Flags.  Marking the things that you want to review can help prioritize what really needs to be highlighted from smaller ideas that add to the big picture.

4. Do more to understand the notes in your notebook!

Now that you’ve gone to class and marked all the important terms, keeping your lecture notes clean and organized is the next step.  Rewriting your notes into organized thoughts can help better organize the lectures into your head.  When you’re able to take notes from the lecture and textbook and reword it neatly, you help yourself understand the material better.

When you’re done with all of your notes, keep them in order with Post-it® Page Markers.  You can easily write on Page Markers and place it on the edge of your notebook to make finding sections quickly and easily.

There are many ways to study, but the most important thing for a freshie like you is to find the best technique and use the best tools to excel in class. You may start up with the tips above to help you out.

With a determined mindset, developed study habits, and a dedication to learn without limits, you will definitely burn the midnight oil throughout your college years without burning yourself out!

Make each day count and enjoy your new start!

confessions of a wheatgrass convert part 4

i didn't think i'd be writing this fourth part this soon. and i think this should be titled "the tale of the missing Wheatgrass box" instead of "Confessions part 4". why? here goes:

i dropped by the Easy Phamax office Thursday afternoon last week to buy a new box of Wheatgrass with Honey. i still have a box more than half-full at home but i decided that since i was in the area, i might as well just buy one. i had a very, very long day that Thursday, so when i got home, i was so tired to care about anything. the missing wheatgrass box tale doesn't start there yet. i didn't lose it anywhere despite my fatigue. i got home with everything intact, heavy stuffed bags and all.

Friday morning is when the tale started. my mom probably told me about it but like what i said, i was too damn tired to care about anything. when i woke up later, i reached for a packet of wheatgrass and noticed the new box was missing. i was about to freak out but then i started thinking back. was i really able to bring it home? i know i did. but where is it?

Saturday morning when i was gearing to go to inquire at a culinary school (yes, i will be enrolling this school year), my mom told me her friend wanted to buy that box of wheatgrass but she'll pay for it this week. it was the same friend that my mom referred wheatgrass to (see Confessions part 3) to treat her skin problem. apparently, her friend liked it so i should be happy. it's just that i was a little bit shocked because i have been looking for it  the whole day Friday. i said she could have told me, and she said she did but i don't remember.

anyway, case solved. i don't want to argue because after all, it's still a happy ending, right? i still have to finish my old stock in the box anyway, so i shouldn't make a fuss of it.

in other news, my other brother (the middle kid aka the latest wheatgrass victim) is back from his internship from the US. i will try and make my moves to get him to try wheatgrass even if it means i'll have to move like a ninja. he's trying to get into a healthy lifestyle anyway, so maybe, just maybe, i'll succeed with this attempt.

until Confessions part 5.

xoxo

Karylle, the face of Miladay Today, makes her sacred vows

Just like a multi-faceted diamond, singer-actress-TV host Karylle has sparkled all the more after overcoming challenges over the years. Throughout those hard times, her class, sophistication, and inner beauty shone brightest making her the perfect choice to be the famed and trusted jewelry brand Miladay’s first-ever celebrity endorser.

“Just like the history of Miladay, Karylle’s life is composed of inspiring tales of love,” says Christine Dayrit, one of the owners of Miladay. “This makes her the perfect choice to be the face of ‘Miladay Today’.”

As brand ambassador, Karylle jumpstarts the 46-year-old jewelry company’s empowering campaign – Miladay Today. In this campaign, Karylle appears in an AVP titled “Sacred Vows,” where she empowers one to make inspired vows to one’s self.

“Sacred Vows” is directed by award-winning director Mark Meily. The cinematography is done by award-winning cinematographer Carlo Mendoza (Asiong Salonga), a former classmate of Karylle at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Karylle explains, “It is like being engaged to yourself. It is a brilliant concept that aims to inspire and remind people that loving one’s self is the ultimate key to one’s happiness. At this day and age, one does not need someone else to give one an engagement ring or a dream diamond or any precious jewels for that matter. It’s the best gift of love you can give yourself. I am so happy to be part of this campaign and of this trusted brand.”

Miladay Today is a part of the Dayrits’ effort to fulfill founder Mila Salgado-Dayrit’s dream of each Filipino having a Miladay piece, no matter how small.

“This is such a big honor to have been chosen by Miladay to be its first celebrity endorser,” says a giggly Karylle. “The brand stands for so many good and beautiful  things—trust, love, integrity—and I am so excited to be its brand ambassador.”

Christine Dayrit notes Karylle’s achievements as the primary reason why the singer-actress was chosen as brand ambassador.

Karylle has just received international acclaims for her work in the TV series The Kitchen Musical. She is currently a part of the noontime show Showtime and the Sunday variety show ASAP 2012. Her latest album Roadtrip, which she personally produced, has just turned Gold.

More than these achievements as a performer, Karylle’s golden heart is simply her biggest achievement. For the past years, she played an active role in supporting Child Haus, White Cross Children’s Home, and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

PAWS is a volunteer-based non-government organization whose goal is to prevent animal cruelty through education, animal sheltering and advocacy. While, Child Haus is a temporary shelter for indigent patients from the different provinces who have cancer or other dreaded diseases and have no place to stay in Metro Manila while undergoing medical evaluation or treatment. White Cross Children's Home, on the other hand, is a child welfare institution catering to the children of parents with tuberculosis.

“My mom’s passion for local culture, love for her loyal workforce and gifted goldsmiths gave birth to Miladay’s collection, a showcase of Filipino artistry through beautifully handcrafted jewelry,” says Chrstine. “The legacy left by my parents continues to be our inspiration to make the Miladay brand bigger, more trusted.”

True enough, Miladay was named one of the country’s “Trusted Brands” in 2006 and 2007 by the nationwide survey of the Reader’s Digest. It also garnered the prestigious “Retailers Award” in 2007 given by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Philippine Retailers Association.

Christine adds that her parents have imparted to them important business principles that they strictly uphold—honesty, integrity and reliability.

The success of Miladay, more than just being an entrepreneurial victory, is a beautiful tale of love – for God, of parents to children, children to parents, employers to employees, brand to consumers.

According to Christine, Miladay has kept their family working on the vision and legacy of their parents. Aside from her, other owners/directors of the Miladay Jewels board are Michelle Dayrit-Soliven, Mark Dayrit, Yvonne Dayrit-Romualdez, and Jaqui Dayrit-Boncan.

“Undeniably, this is a family affair that we would like to extend to every Filipino and their families,” says Mark. “Over the years, we have worked hard to present to everyone what ‘Miladay Today’ is all about.”

Aside from the House of Miladay in Jupiter Street in Makati, Miladay has branches in Alabang Town Center, SM Mall of Asia, Glorietta 4, The Podium, The Block in SM North EDSA, TriNoma North Triangle and SM City Taytay. For more information, please call 890-6303 or 890-7738 or log on to www.miladayjewels.com.

Give Love on Mother’s Day!

Being a mother is one of the most challenging yet the most rewarding jobs in the world. As each of these precious women is  unique,  each one has her own way of showing her  unconditional and tireless love to her  kids. So we honor our moms during this particular time of the year by showing our love for them through the most special way that we could think of.

On Mother’s Day, we put them under the spotlight and make our moms feel the prettiest and most special. We give them sweet solutions like a trip to her favourite hangout spot, a day off from her usual household chores, a box of chocolates, a salon makeover or a bouquet of her favorite flowers. But have you ever thought about giving such a special woman in your life something that can last for more than a day or a week?

Instead of going to the store and buying her a predictable gift,, why not sit down and take time to write an old-fashioned  note to express your gratitude for everything she has done for you? Rather than a store-bought present, let your heartfelt love notes fill her heart as you take time to thank the woman who has gotten you out of bed and made you breakfast every morning, picked you up and patched your wounds, kept a vigil by your bedside whenever you were sick and stood by you all these years.

In case you’re stuck with writer’s block, here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Remind her she is loved. Just as she has given you unconditional and tireless love, remind her that you feel the same way for her. Sometimes, telling someone we love them can feel awkward or too mushy, but words can flow much easier on paper and are just as meaningful.

2. Write thank you notes for all she’s done. Think back on every loving task mom has done for you – whether big or small. The more you can think of and the further back you go is a testament to her that you haven’t forgotten any of her good deeds and that you appreciate every one of them.

3. Remember that when you say “sorry”, you start healing. The great thing about moms is that they forgive easily and perfectly even when there are misunderstandings or when you have not appreciated her as much. Even so, reading a heartfelt apology would go a long way to make both of you feel better.

4. Collect a Jar of Heartfelt Notes. Finally, when you’re done, collect all your love notes and place them in a jar by her bedside, so she can wake up to the best surprise.

Don’t be afraid to get creative in starting with this project. Use Post-it® Cube Notes that come in different sizes and varied colors to fill up your jar. You can also opt to use Post-it® Notes in assorted neon or pastel colors to write down each loving note. Decorate the jar as well with ribbons, acrylic paint or glitter glue. Even after Mother’s Day, you can continuously leave the jar and a pad of Post-it® Notes on the kitchen or anywhere accessible to the entire family and start collecting 365 days worth of love notes from everyone.

Post-it® is a trademark of 3M.

Little Heroes in our Midst

Have you discovered what a hero your child can be in his own small way?

Children who have been nurtured with the right values and live within an inspiring environment start showing signs of amazing heroism even at an early age.  Since the biblical times, we have been told of stories of how a kid’s small deed has changed lives and situations significantly.

Tang believes in this. It celebrates the greatness of kids.

That’s why last year, the brand launched a nationwide Search for Tang Galing Kids in order to recognize young achievers who at their tender age, already demonstrated their potential for being heroes.

Tang wanted to showcase the many heroic efforts of children from all over the country.  With organizations sending in their nominations,  such as Club 8586 Inc., Dynamic Teen Company, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, Handicapped Intensive Rehabilitation through Employment, Women of Wallem and PAREF Rosehill School, Tang’s jury was able to choose seven of the most remarkable young heroes.

The winners represent varied interests with only one common thread – they all have significant contributions to their communities and organizations.

A former street beggar and labor-exploited child, young Kesz Valdes began teaching other kids personal hygiene through demonstrations at the tender age of six. A year later, with no consideration of a reward, Kesz began to volunteer by giving out slippers and books to street children and scavengers roaming the streets.

Raynold dela Cruz, a “My Rights” volunteer, is an active advocate for children’s rights and was recognized with a “Good-Deeder” Award and a “Young Mandela” title in 2010 by the South African Embassy and the Dynamic Teen Company during Nelson Mandela Day. He is now a trainee in the Dynamic Teen Company with a project he recently launched called “Saving Kids with First Aid Kits”, which aims to provide first aid kits to public school clinics, while also raising funds by selling ice candy made with Tang.

U Maalam and Trubador Wisely used their creative skills in creating an illustrated comic collection aimed at uplifting the lives of others. After class, they both try to sell the comics at a higher cost to rich executives, lowering publication costs so they could sell the comics to the masses at a much lower price.

Love for God is epitomized in young Padre Pio devotee Angela Serafico who spends her time helping less fortunate children. The multi-faceted young artist is a violinist, writer, public speaker, and painter. In response to the recent Typhoon Sendong, Angela sold two of her paintings, donating the proceeds to the calamity victims.

Young Martha Balagat, in her first grade, created and illustrated her own book and is a contributor to the Junior Inquirer where several of her pieces were featured. On top of that, she teaches Catechism every Saturday with her mother, at their parish where she reads to underprivileged children and creates visual aids for her classes with them.

Last, but not least, Dannah Suaze, a Laguna Council Representative, inspires less fortunate children to be responsible citizens by teaching Catechism and reading. She does all this through her active participation in Barangay, Church, and Girl Scout Programs.

Sometimes the best gift we can receive from our children is not what they give us, but what they want to give to the world.

Encourage your children to reach out and share with others all the love that you have given them. Let’s all celebrate the greatness of our kids.

Is Karylle Engaged?

Rumor has it that singer-actress Karylle is already engaged. She was allegedly seen sporting a ring(?) from Miladay Jewels. Are there any truth to these?

But Karylle has been a long-time patron of Miladay Jewels, having been seen wearing different Miladay pieces in numerous occasions - from music videos to photo shoots and event tapings.

We'll see about that in the days to come. The cat will eventually come out of the bag.

Confessions of a Wheatgrass Convert Part 3

in the previous installment of the wheatgrass chronicles, i was trying to get my mom to get to at least try wheatgrass. well, guess what?! epic fail! not only wouldn't she try it, she does her best to avoid it. my brother as well. big duh! escape artists in my family

but on the brighter side, my mom has been referring to her friends and officemates wheatgrass. not sure though if she stumbled upon my previous post about the uses of wheatgrass, but she has been asking what it could do. next thing i know, she took a packet and got her friend to try it. then one time she asked if i have an idea what could treat a skin infection (i forgot what it was, all i know is that wheatgrass could treat it according to my reference), and of course i said maybe her friend should try wheatgrass by applying it topically. next thing i know, my box of wheatgrass is half-empty. if that's what it takes so i could get people on green revolution, so be it.

in another news, my dad's here for a break from the UN, the first thing i gave him was a can of Easy Phamax Wheatgrass RTD and it was a hit. he liked it, so much i guess that when i asked him to try the one with Honey (try meaning sip), he finished MY cup of wheatgrass to my horror. it's mine, you know?! so what i do is that whenever he'd ask for tea, i give him wheatgrass instead.

now i wonder who's gonna be my next wheatgrass victim? my other brother's coming home from his internship in the US in a few days, if i'm not mistaken. maybe he's next? we'll see about that.

until part 4.

Give your kids a headstart to a healthy life with Whea-Gee Chewables!

Kids. They've got so much energy in their tiny little bodies. Ever wondered where that much energy comes from? I have heard from tv commercials and even friends and relatives who have kids say the kids almost always are picky eaters, so they don't get the proper nutrition they need.

Another battle moms have to face are the existence of processed foods and distractions that keep the kids from eating properly and decrease their physical activity. Oh, wait. it's not just the kids suffering from that, adults as well! Kids and adults alike with that kind of lifestyle, they could be candidates for heart diseases, obesity and diabetes. Nutritional imbalance could lead to weak bones and muscles, poor immune system and slow brain function.

Easy Pha-max Whea-Gee Chewables maximizes the kids' full potential with the combined wonders of wheatgrass and colostrum in one tablet the kids will surely love. So despite your kid being a picky eater, easily distracted from eating, or just plain lazy or inactive because of technology, you can give them the nutrition their bodies require.

Your children deserve only the best. give them Whea-gee Chewables, the tablet that has the cleansing, alkalizing and nourishing power of wheatgrass and the growth and immune-boosting advantage of colostrum.
